Customer of the Week: Spoil Yourself Spa
From a very young age, Sophie Houlker was attracted to lotions and perfumes, sneaking into her mother’s drawers to take in the smells and aromas. Born to be in a spa, Sophie turned her childhood dreams into a reality. Meet our latest Customer of the Week: Spoil Yourself Spa.
Sophie started her beauty therapy career in Europe, working under some of the world’s best therapists at 6-star luxury salons. This training was invaluable. Upon returning home, Sophie wanted to lift the bar in Wellington, providing high quality and luxury spa services.
Spoil Yourself Spa opened its doors in 2009, just 20 minutes from Wellington’s CBD. Nestled right in the hub of Whitby Village, the business offers luxury treatments and services to the humming suburb.
With the world becoming an increasingly busy place, we need to work hard on slowing down and giving ourselves time to breathe. This is Sophie’s philosophy — to encourage clients to embrace health and wellness and to put time aside to spoil themselves! She and her five-strong team are also passionate about educating clients to better care for their skin.
“Our skin is our largest organ, yet many of our clients have not prioritised its health until they come to us.”
Sophie’s stresses the importance of finding the right therapist to suit your needs and long term goals, and also educate you to better care for your skin.
“Anyone can rub cream on their face, but to find a knowledgeable therapist that knows your skin and is confident in how to treat your concerns is invaluable.”
Since she was a child, Sophie has always had a passion for health and well-being, and it’s this passion that has helped her business become such a success.
“Only do what you are genuinely and authentically passionate about. Your clients, community and your staff can feel the difference.”
If passion is the driving force, then building a brand and a business comes naturally.
“People say if you choose a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life. I am one of those lucky people.”
Sophie stresses the importance of consistency in business. Clients need to able to come in on any given day, be treated in any of the four treatment rooms and receive the exact same service that leaves them feeling a little bit spoiled, and ready for the world again.
This consistency comes down to a happy and educated team.
“All of my therapists treat this as though it is their own business as well, and for that I am exceptionally grateful.”
Sophie has built a quaint salon that incorporates her wealth of knowledge, and her desire to make people feel special. The perfect combination for a thriving and successful business.
