Beautify Massage Therapy growing with the help of Timely

I graduated in 2009 from Otago Polytechnic from a Certificate in Massage Therapy. I worked as a physio assistant at a rest home and in a day spa before deciding to go out on my own. I searched high and low in Dunedin for a suitable premises and found it at Physiomed in Mornington, now Back in Motion Physio. Mornington was a great place to start and grow Beautify, with an amazing community support system. I found it very hard in the beginning, I would take home the washing every day, send all the text reminders, and be on call 24/7. I  single handedly built up my client base – over the past 27 months going from 3 massages a week (with one of those clients my mum!) to now 30+ massages per week.

As a one woman business, it can be overwhelming at times to be organised to do everything! If something goes wrong, there is no one to blame but yourself and that can be very stressful. The biggest business skill I have learnt is to use the tools around you to help, support and grow your business. Tools such as Timely, my business bank manager, my business advisor as well as advice from other small business owners have been invaluable.

With Beautify growing, I began to look for a bigger place. I found the perfect place in South Rd, Caversham and was very excited to hold the offical opening on Friday 6th February 2015. Caversham appealed to me because of the small community support, affordability and the potential to successfully grow Beautify.

I am nervous yet excited for what the future will bring, I am continuously learning both with massage and in business. I was very shy and timid when I first started and opening Beautify has made me more sociable, confident and open to opportunities. I look forward to one day being able to be a role model for young Pacific Islanders and having the ability to help/support other small pacific businesses.
